Another Visit to Gale and John in the Countryside.

2016-6-13, Day1, Home to Gridley via I-5, SR99: 125 miles

It had been a couple of months since we took the short drive to Gridley to visit my twin sister, Gale, and husband, John. It was time to visit them again in the small town of Gridley, something over a hundred miles away. We loaded the coach that morning of Day 1, and headed north at 1030.

 

The drive was scenic as farmland or Sacramento can be scenic. We enjoy driving along the fields this time of year as the crops are in full bloom and color. We saw rice, walnuts, corn, and more along our route. Click the above set for enlarged photos.

We had to deal with the traffic of Sacramento as we headed north, but it was relatively light late in the morning as we passed through.The Sacramento tower flag at half mast for the terrorist victims in Orlando after the cowardly weekend attack there. And it was a windy day in the valley, as usual that time of year.

We arrived in Gridley around 1230 or so, then pulled into the local Taco Bell for lunch as we told Gale we’d have lunch before we arrived. After some good tacos we continued on, just a few miles out of town to Gale and John’s lovely country home.

Gale had been dealing with the very disturbing issue of losing her ability to walk. She has to rely on a walker, and easily loses her balance. We hope and pray for a recovery but so far there doesn’t seem to be much improvement.Cecil the Diesel parked at John and Gale’s for our visit. The day was warm and the air conditioner ran much of the time.

We enjoyed an afternoon of visiting in the house, and in the evening on their cozy and very country patio. John and I drove into town for a few items for dinner, including some of Safeway’s deli fried chicken for me. Lavonne brought along some frozen Mexican enchiladas that they enjoyed.The Old Folks visiting around the living room.

I returned to the coach around 2230, after dinner and visiting, to work on this blog. Lavonne joined me about an hour later. We spent the rest of the evening in the comfy coach.

Tuesday, Day 2, Gridley to home via SR99, I-5: 125 miles

We were up and around at 0600, and after morning chores sat down to the computers to visit our usual sites. We waited an hour or so to head to the house, then visited a while before deciding to have a Mickey D’s breakfast. John and I drove into town for the goodies and hurried home with breakfast.

After breakfast we continued our visit in the living room. Gale and I sang a few gospel songs together. We used to sing together as she played the piano, but we sing acapella these days. She still harmonizes as well as ever, and we enjoyed ourselves.

Before we boarded the coach to head home, Gale and John walked out to see it. It was difficult for Gale to climb up the steps, but she made it with some help. Both were duly impressed with Cecil the Diesel’s cozy interior.

It was some time after 1100 that we headed for home. In Yuba City we found diesel at a Shell station, of all places, for $2.68, about a dime to 20 cents less than most prices we’d seen. We didn’t need to fuel up, but I couldn’t pass a good price and filled up.

Our drive was uneventful as we like, except that we stopped at a Mickey D’s en route home for some coffee. I was getting so sleepy that I had to stop for one of those great Mickey D’s sugar and caffeine jolts. I ordered a large coffee and a McFlurry. Lavonne wanted a small order of fries. I was wide awake the rest of the drive! 

We arrived home at 1415 and set about unloading the coach. It had been another good visit with Gale and John, and it was also good to be back home.
